Title

We Do Not Have To Sin, But If We Do...

Scripture
These things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
(1 John 2:1)
Devotional
Even though we were born in sin, we do not have to continue in that sin. Sin is a choice we make. The purpose of the Word of God is to guide us away from all sin. Nevertheless, we have all sinned and have fallen short of God’s glory. It is for this reason that we need an Advocate. An advocate is one who pleads the case of another. Christ Jesus as our advocate not only intercedes for us. He paid the price for our sin. Therefore, we ought to do our best to refrain from sinning because of the price that had to be paid. Every time we sin, that sin goes to Calvary. Every  time we succumb to an outburst of anger, lustful thoughts and evil intentions, they go to the cross. The love of God is to be our greatest deterrent to sin. Nevertheless, if we do sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
