Title

A Word To the Prudent

Scripture
A fool despises his father’s instruction, but he who receives correction is prudent.
(Proverbs 15:5)
Devotional
The commandment is clear: We are to honor our father and mother. I know of no greater way to do so than to receive their instruction. You owe your parents a debt of gratitude; they gave you life. Furthermore, you can continue to learn from them.
Whether young or old, we can receive correction from our parents. It matters not their education, wisdom, or spiritual condition, we are not to despise their discipline. It is the wise man and woman who listen to their parents with an ear that leans toward obedience.
I have found that the more we honor our parents the more honorable they become. Whether wise or foolish, spirit-filled or drunkards, we can receive and learn a great deal about life from them. Proverbs 23:22 furthermore says, “Listen to your father who begot you, and do not despise your mother when she is old.” Herein is a word to the prudent. Honor your parents.
