Wisdom has built her house, She has hewn out her seven pillars.(Proverbs 9:1)
Devotional
The number seven is mentioned over five hundred times in the scriptures. In essence, it is the number of completion. Here in our text it is used to show the completeness of God’s wisdom. In the previous chapter, Wisdom is shown as being with the master Creator before the beginning of the world. Here we see wisdom’s grace, goodness and mercy leading us to the Savior of the world. Here we see Christ in all His glory. This wisdom is the foundation by which Christ has built His Church. He is its foundation. And it is a foundation that shall not be moved. Neither life’s storms nor shakings can move it from its foundation. It is firm and secure. You can trust it. Stand on it; rely on it to its maximum. Wisdom is portrayed here as a benevolent queen as she says, “whoever is simple, let him turn in here!” As for him who lacks understanding, she says to him, “come; eat of my bread and drink of the wine I have mixed. Forsake foolishness and live, and go in the way of understanding.” (1)(1) Proverbs 9:4-6
