Title

The Faithfulness of Ruth

Scripture
Where you die, I will die, and there will I be buried. The Lord do so to me, and more also, if anything but death parts you and me.
(Ruth 1:17)
Devotional
What was the foundation of Ruth's faithfulness and love for Naomi? The answer must be in Ruth's commitment to her husband and to her husband's God. Even though Ruth was a Moabitist, Elimelech, Naomi's husband and sons were believers in the Most High God. They were sons of Abraham. We are told by Christ in the gospels, "A man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate."[38] Ruth's commitment to her husband surpassed his death. She was no longer a Moabite; she was now a daughter of Sarah. Therefore she could say to her mother-in-law, "Wherever you go, I will go; and wherever you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God, my God."[39]
