Title

Do Not Be A Boring Neighbor

Scripture
Seldom set your foot in your neighbor’s house, lest he become weary of you and hate you.
(Proverbs 25:17)
Devotional
Allow me to paraphrase our text: “Don’t be a pain in the neck.” If your life is boring, you are not entitled to bore others with it. The best time to visit your neighbor is when invited. Furthermore, realize that this proverb is not given solely for the purpose of being a literal neighbor. It is very wise counsel for dealing with people in all realms of life. The old saying, “Familiarity breeds contempt” is true. We can become too familiar. When this happens, respect usually wanes. When people become too familiar with you, one, or both will become contemptible. Whether in business, friendships or as neighbors, keep and respect proper boundaries. Do not be presumptuous. You may enjoy being with your neighbor, but your neighbor may not enjoy being with you. Friendships are best measured by quality, not quantity.
