Refinished Man

Scripture
He restores my soul; He leads me in the path of righteousness for His name’s sake.
(Psalm 23:3)
Devotional
God is in the restoration business. Because of the sin nature of mankind, we are in constant need of repair. We are so easily stained and marred. Like a fine piece of furniture, our finish, when abused, becomes damaged. We only want to restore the outside, that which is visible to others. So we polish, prep and decorate. This we think restores our being. God is more concerned with the infrastructure. He is more concerned with our ability to stand than our ability to be decorative. Man is concerned with restoring the body. God is more concerned with restoring the soul—who we really are. When our only concern is outward, we are interested in our own self-righteousness. When we surrender to the restoring hand of the Creator, we do so for His name’s sake. Take care of the outward. Do your best to protect the finish, but do not neglect the true structure. Allow the Master Craftsman to restore your soul.
