Title

The Power of Silence and Calmness

Scripture
He who has knowledge spares his words, and a man of understanding is of a calm spirit.
(Proverbs 17:27)
Devotional
The beauty of this proverb is that knowledge and understanding are attainable. If I can hold my tongue, I have learned the knowledge of sparing my words. If I can choose to remain calm I have likewise practiced understanding. This may sound overly simplified. However, if I will just spare my words, I will at the very least have an appearance of knowledge. And if I can stay calm, at least on the outside, I will likewise have an appearance of understanding. Proverbs furthermore states the power of silence and calmness, “Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace; when he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive.” Silence may not be golden, but it sure has the countenance of knowledge. And when we choose to remain calm we demonstrate understanding. This simple lesson can change the power of your presence and increase your knowledge and understanding.
