Title

Ahabs and Jezebels

Scripture
So Ahab went into his house sullen and depressed… and he lay down on his bed, and turned away his face, and would not eat.
(1 Kings 21:4)
Devotional
Here we have the epitome of a “Pity party.” Of Israel’s kings, Ahab was the most evil, self centered, egotistical of them all. He forced Jezebel to be more of a mother to him than a wife. She ruled as the matriarch. He ruled as a whiner. However, in the end both got what they deserved. A husband that whines to his wife relinquishes his leadership as a husband and subjects himself as a son. He forces his wife into the unnatural role of a mother. As Jezebel is synonymous with evil, Ahab should be synonymous with pitiful. There is little more pathetic than a man who relinquishes his manhood and pouts like a spoiled child. It is not for the office of husband to sulk and whine to the ones he is to lead. Husbands are not to be brooding childish Ahabs and wives are not to be mothering Jezebels. Husbands resist the temptation to sulk to your wives. Wives likewise resist the lure to mother your husbands.
