Title

The Ugliness of Contention

Scripture
“Better to dwell in a corner of a housetop, than in a house shared with a contentious woman.”
(Proverbs 21:9:)
Devotional
A contentious person is the antitheses of a quiet and gentle spirit. The apostle Peter says that a gentle and quiet spirit is an incorruptible beauty and Proverbs states, “The contentions of a wife are a continual dripping.” ?If you are contentious, you are void of the fruit of the Spirit. For Galatians says that the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace…gentleness. Isaiah states that, “In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.” Therefore, there is no justification for contention, especially in the home. ?Your contention may be repulsive to man, but it is loathsome to God as well. You may drive your spouse to the housetop, but you may also drive yourself against the Lord God. The next time you find yourself being contentious, think about the affect you are having on others, but even more so, think about the affect you are having on God.
