Avoiding Voyeurism

You should not have gazed on the day of your brother in the day of his captivity; Nor should you have rejoiced over the… day of their destruction; Nor should you have spoken proudly In the day of distress.

Voyeurism, the obsessive desire to observe sordid or sensational subjects, is the perverted trend of our age. We have become a society that is entertained by disaster and destruction, exploitation and pornography. You would think that we are more interested and concerned about the lives of celebrities than we are about the lives of those closest to us. Obadiah warns us of this deviant tabloid mentality. It is perverted and harmful. If the only life we have is living the fantasy life of another, we have no life at all. Refuse to be entertained by the various voyeuristic media industries. Shun them. Do not allow your children to be entertained by them. Let us “Get-a-life” of our own. Do some inventory. What do you read? What programs and movies do you watch? Heed the warning of Obadiah and escape the perversion of voyeurism.
