God’s Reasoning

Scripture
Now you shall say to this people, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Behold, I set before you the way of life and the way of death”’
(Jeremiah 21:8)
Devotional
The ways of the Lord are not trite. That is, God is not flippant nor fickle. God means what He says and says what He means. God is not casual about His directions to His creation. Proverbs says it this way, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” Our reasoning is not always in line with the reasons of God. For example, God explicitly instructs His people about the tithe. Yet, many folks do not tithe because they reason it away in their minds. They calculate that the math does not work, so they choose the way of their own reasoning, and they wonder why they are broke. The Lord’s way is the way of abundant life. Man’s way is the way of certain death. Therefore, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.”
