Speaking The Oracles Of God

Scripture
Divination is on the lips of the king; his mouth must not transgress in judgment.
(Proverbs 16:10)
Devotional
Here in our text, the word "Divination" is used in a good sense. It has the connotation of prophecy. Therefore the meaning is that the king or leader speaks or is to speak as if he were speaking the counsel of God. The apostle Peter applies this to all believers, "If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God."[24] A leader is likewise not to lapse in judgment. If we learn to hold to this proverb, we would most likely be of few words and slow to judge. There are people who listen to you as if you were speaking the will and the way of the Lord: hopefully at least your family. Depending on your position, others may hear you with the same bent. If not, we are to ask ourselves, "why not?" If we seldom mean what we say and say what we mean, how can we expect those to whom we speak to believe us? Here we have the negative meaning of divination.
