Do Not Be Afraid
Scripture
“Do not be afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom you are afraid; do not be afraid of him,” says the Lord, “For I am with you, to save you and deliver you…”(Jeremiah 42:11)
Devotional
In this one verse the word “afraid” is used three times. I have found that when the Bible says something that repetitiously, we ought to give special attention to what is being said. Israel had good reason to be afraid of Nebuchadnezzar. He had plundered their land, killed their leaders, and took them captive into Babylon. Nevertheless, the Lord said, “Do not be afraid of him.” Why and how could God say that? The answer can only be found through faith in God. We may not understand all of His ways, but we can understand that He is never out of control and that nothing takes Him by surprise. When God says, “I am with you,” you can be assured that He is. He will grace you with His presence. As the Psalm says, “…though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me.”Daily Reading
