Devotional
Weeping and laughing are not to be controlled by emotion alone, but by appropriate circumstances and a heart of compassion. My mother had much wisdom is knowing the timing of laughing and crying. I can remember as a child during times of whining that my mother would inevitable say, "Stop that crying, or I will give you something to cry about." Some may call that cruel; I call it wise. Mood swings are not justifiable reasons for outward expressions. The Spirit controlled believer is able to, "Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep."[34] It may sound odd, but we are to honestly be able to turn these on and off.
